John George Meisner Sr. started repairing vehicles in Lakeland around 1942 at Balangers Auto Storage down town. He left his job as a repair man to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the South Pacific. Later he returned to work as a fire fighter for the City of Lakeland and as an automobile repair man. John Sr. has watched this industry change for the good over the years. Raising both his sons, David Meisner and John Meisner Jr., in a crib at the shop, John Sr. worked to build a reputation for a moral, trustworthy, and an all around different experience than any other. After finally opening his own shop in the mid 1950's at his home, he molded his two sons who truly surpassed his skills and instilled into them his own beliefs, do what is right and never compromise your integrity!! The business was moved to the present location on Massachusetts Avenue in 1969. He later sold the business to his two sons in 1983 so that he could attend seminary, to become a Baptist Minister. With a fire in 1985 damaging the shop beyond repairs, the present facility was constructed. Though never missing a day due to construction, we were able to overcome the obstacle and continued our beliefs and principles. John Meisner Jr.’s daughter Michelle, and son Michael, both raised in the shop, are the third generation to carry on the same traditions, and continue the saying, “TAKE IT TO MEISNERS”.
